Chores (or general mega to do) List 1 - Sticky Note To-Do list

My goodness what a disastrous mess my bedroom and bathroom have become!

This is of course to be expected with a creative-shopper-hoarder type, which I admit to being. The peculiar thing is that I actually enjoy being organised and the sense of satisfaction that comes with a de-cluttered and thoroughly polished dwelling. A de-cluttered environment leads to a de-cluttered mind.

Yet there is so much to do it's overwhelming - where to start!

There are 2 options I've come up with and this is the first - probably great for the first time/one off stuff you need to do before you can actually make a regular structured way of doing things. Here's the how..

Sticky Note To-Do list

Step 1. (You can skip this) Write all of your tasks down on a list. Where possible set deadlines

This can be done on paper or your phone or computer, basically just a list anywhere...

example:
To Dos as at 27.07.13
  • clean bathroom walls
  • write cousin's bday card and send - by 28.07.13
  • wash clothes - by 28.07.13
  • iron clothes - by 28.07.13
  • put stray clothes away - by 28.07.13
  • clean toilet - by 28.07.13
  • clean shower doors - by 28.07.13
  • clean windows - by 28.07.13
  • wash curtains
  • clean curtain rails
  • sort all filing and paperwork - by 31.07.13
  • put all filing and paperwork away
Alternatively, you can make the list in excel, with tasks in one column and deadline dates in another - allowing the tasks to be sorted in order of due date which will come in handy for the next stages...

example:

ta da...
please ignore the spelling mistakes!

Step 2. (read step 3 before doing this) Transfer each task on to a sticky note - the stickier the better, or use paper with pins/tape/tack etc.

Step 3. Find a surface to stick your notes on and divide it into categories to reflect their urgency

This could be as simple as "Today/Tomorrow/This Week/This Month/This Year"
Or general importance indicators such as "Urgent/Very Important/Important/Good Idea/For Idle Hands"
Or whatever you please.

Purely to avoid further clutter, I chose the inside of a wardrobe door (the one which isn't already being used to keep me organised) - you could just use a poster, a wall, a journal/diary.

Step 4. Stick your notes up into the category they belong to!

example: (you can't read anything from there at all can you!) Top to Bottom: Today, Tomorrow, This week, This month

Step 5. Do the ToDos! When you've done each one, you can throw the sticky note away. If it's a recurring chore eg wash clothes, clean windows etc, you can move them to the bottom of the sets for standby on when you plan to do them again. For date/time frame based categories, you can move jobs that aren't done to another category, or upgrade tasks when you think you can do them sooner.

VOILA

Once I've used this to get myself to some kind of day 1 all clean and perfect standard, I'll introduce another way of keeping a regular schedule... if I ever get there....

Don't hesitate to comment below - thanks!
